Athlete of the Month: Christine Seymour

Christine has been crushing PRs in class and recently stood on the top of the podium with her partner, Cassie, at the Loco Leprechaun Competition. Awesome job Christine, keep up the good work!
When did you start CrossFit and why?   
I started CrossFit around 2008.  I was part of a “selective” boot camp at Gold’s with a friend of mine when he learned I was trying to find something to do after tearing my ACL. We didn’t even know that what we were doing was CrossFit.  I then fell in with another trainer who opened the box in Marlboro. I just loved the fact that it wasn’t routine, or mundane and the workouts were always different.
What is you favorite movement?
I love any movement with a barbell.  Snatches, cleans, jerks, etc…..
What is your least favorite movement?
I hate running.  I’ve been told that I wasn’t built for running, I was built for lifting.  😀
Tell us a little about your life outside the gym (family, job, hobbies, interests, etc)
Outside of CrossFit, I really enjoy watching my kids play sports, going to the beach with the family, being outdoors, and traveling.  I like to have fun.  Life is too short! Enjoy every second you can.
What were you doing before CrossFit?
Before CrossFit, I was always at the gym, or walking or doing yoga.  I’m one of those people that likes to be active, needs to be active, enjoys being active.
What were your goals when joining CrossFit and how have you achieved those goals?
I joined CrossFit because I love the challenge.  I love testing myself, and seeing what I’m capable of accomplishing.  I am consistently stepping out of my comfort zone to push myself.  And I love doing it with my CrossFit family.  (Immediate and extended!)
How has CrossFit affected your life outside the gym?
I believe CrossFit has not only made me physically stronger, but I have more confidence in myself.  My whole family CrossFits.  My husband either did not go to the gym or went to Planet Fitness, and now he’s an animal.  My girls go to CrossFit and it has changed their lives.  I love what it does for all of us.  We are all stronger, healthier, more confident and we can do it together.
What advice would you give to someone new to CrossFit or thinking about giving it a shot?
The best piece of advice I can offer is this:  Just walk through the door.  It’s the hardest step you’ll make, but you’ll never leave.  We have an amazing “community” of people.  Anyone can do CrossFit.  From the elite athletes to the couch potato. There is something for everyone! I might be biased, but the people at Pennant are awesome.  We have such a phenomenal group of people and nothing is better than surrounding myself with them and working out!
